For the first time Apreamare has built a gozzo boat with a glazed cockpit.
Gozzo boats are considered to be an Italian classic. Their streamlined shapes originate from the colorful fishing boats that tourists on the Amalfi Coast love to photograph. The Sorrento-based, family-owned Apreamare shipyard has managed to recognize great potential in the gozzo style. Since 2017, it has been experimenting with modern versions of it. The first 10-meter-long model was designed and developed by Cataldo Apreamare, who compared the exterior of the boat with a classic Fiat 500 on a street of London, with foldable Radio Cubo receivers and with the island of Capri in blooming colors. Gradually, the project grew into a full line, which is now being developed by one of the most sought-after Italian yacht designers, Marco Casali. In general, up until recently, we have been dealing with undeniable "Italiano Vero" matter. Now, the task is to turn a successful concept into something of a more cosmopolitan nature. The popular 11-meter Gozzo 35 of 2020 has been used as the basis for an extended model with a closed cabin and stationary engine system. Engineer Umberto Tagliavini has made the hull to be able to sail under much rougher conditions. The boat is targeted to the Northern European market, in particular the Scandinavian countries. This means that in our climate, she would feel like a Neapolitan woman in an elegant cashmere coat.
The Apreamare Gozzo 38 Cabin is a comfortable and stylish 11.45-meter-long family cruiser. The cabin has high ceilings and a four-way glazing window, which offers excellent visibility. Inside, there is enough space for a control station, a wide sofa with a folding table, and a wet bar with a sink, grill or induction hob, and a refrigerator. The cockpit has a corner sofa for four and a teak convertible table with adjustable height. Open up the polarized glass bi-fold transparent door, and you get a single unified space. Some guests can be accommodated in the saloon, some in the cockpit. Dinner can be served to both sides, as they call it, in a «hot off the presses» manner. The cockpit is protected from the sun by a retractable Bimini top.
The teak-finished stern is rounded. This feature is a tribute to the “Gozzo Sorrentino” tradition. Such a charming vintage is easy to fall for. To the left of the sofa, there is a door leading to the bathing platform. And near the port side, the backrest of the sofa is lowered to make it easier to step aboard when the boat is moored sideways. The swim platform is located just above the waterline, and it is also rounded and extends out almost a meter and a half. This is Apreamare’s specific style’s signature detail. It looks as if a gozzo is sticking its tongue out and teasing other boats: «Watch and be envious! » On request, part of the bathing platform can be made submersible.
Flanking the cockpit, there are convenient passageways to the spacious sunbed on the bow.
On the left side from the control station, there is an entrance to the cabin. Its front part is occupied by a triangular double bed with a huge chest of drawers at the base. It is so high that the bed has to be climbed up the steps. Optionally, it can be replaced with a three-piece sofa transformer, which folds out into a bed for the night. The master bedroom is separated from the rest of the rooms by a sliding door. Under the stairs there is a second bed for two, which can even be considered a queen size in terms of the width.
The interior design can fairly be called a mix of Mediterranean and Scandinavian styles. The room is bright and cozy. The fronts of built-in cabinets and the floor are made of oak in shades of coffee with milk and milk chocolate. White walls with glossy coating visually increase the cabin area. For contrast, a wide leather molding of ultramarine shade is stretched along the walls of the bedroom. The bathroom with a shower cabin is spacious and comfortable enough.
The Gozzo 38 Cabin is powered by two Volvo Penta engines. You can choose between the D4-270 DPI with 270 horsepower or the D4-320 Shaft Drive with 320 horsepower.
The first hull of the new Gozzo could be seen in person at the Cannes Yachting Festival and the Genoa Boat Show in September.
